Brian Stapleton

I retired from Croydon Council in 2009 where I had been responsible for the Croydon Strategic Partnership and also the voluntary sector grants programme. In the 18 months before retirement I had been seconded as Chief Executive of Croydon Business.
I have a long standing interest and involvement with voluntary sector organsiations, and I am involved with Croydon Young Enterprise as a committee member and a mentor.
I am now able to pursue my interests to an even greater degree than before - so am playing more golf and tennis and watching live sport. I intend to go to the cricket world cup in India in March and am looking forward to watching a variety of Olympic events in 2012.
I am also able to travel more extensively and in the last year had a couple of trips to the states and also visited South Africa

Terry Roberts

Terry Roberts, a native of Manchester, spent most of his professional career as a  senior manager in the NHS including posts running Westminster Hospital and the Royal Free Hampstead. Terry  became a health commissioner in the 1990’s and was director of commissioning for the Camden and Islington Health Authority work which involved close partnerships with voluntary sector organisations as community care arrangements were put in place. For the past decade Terry has combined management consultancy with an active engagement with the voluntary sector in Croydon.  A long term CVA trustee, Terry is currently Chair of AgeUK Croydon (formerly Age Concern Croydon) and the Croydon Association for Pastoral Care in Mental Health. Leisure interests include travel and classical music especially opera; Terry has sung for many years in the choir at St John’s Upper Norwood.

Gordon Falconer

I have worked almost all of my working life in the public sector having started as a community worker, working in a variety of partnership based roles and currently working as a senior manager in the area of community safety. Throughout my career, if stumbling around the public sector in a variety of roles is a career, I have been an active volunteer with a range of organisations including, a national community training organisation, as a school governor, HIV/AIDs organisation and as a trustee of CVA and SLCVS. In my free time, not that there is much of it, I am improving my grumpy old man persona while trying to fit in time for some cycling training, running and the occasional walk in the highlands of Scotland.

 Why is the Board important?
CVA’s Board agrees an annual Business Plan. Every five to seven years a new Strategic Plan is drawn up for the organisation, using extensive consultation and involvement at all levels in the organisation, with links to external stakeholders.

The Board oversees this process, with the Chief Executive Steve Phaure reporting to the Board regularly to ensure accountability.
