What Does the Safer Croydon Partnership do?

This Partnership covers community safety. It acts as the statutory Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership (CDRP) for Croydon, as stipulated by the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 (reviewed in 2009 and effective of April 2010).
Safer Croydon Partnership will be responsible for community safety as follows:

  • Strategic support for all partners to ensure Croydon’s communities become more involved in public service delivery and design re community safety; including the co-ordination and sign off of the Annual Croydon Strategic Assessment.
  • Commission the Community Safety Team / Safer Croydon Partnership Unit to undertake specific work to achieve the strategic objectives of the Community Engagement and Communications Performance Delivery Group
  • Act as the Partnership Body with strategic oversight of Community Cohesion and ‘Prevent’ (preventing violent extremism) Delivery Plans to ensure activity is being undertaken and that resources are available to deliver this agenda across Croydon.
  • Identify and respond to emerging threats outside of organisational boundaries

 NEWS: Police Question Time

Croydon Xpress involved four groups of marginalised young people (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender; Young Travellers; Not in education, employment or training; Refugee and Asylum Seekers) in separate 2 hour workshops to gather their thoughts on their relationship with the Police. Workshop activities consisted of a variety of interactive participatory tools to motivate and capture their views such as role plays, audio recording, digital film, written and edemocracy.
Outcomes from this project were fed back to the Croydon Metropolitan Police Safer Neighbourhood Teams via a presentation and a written report. As a result of this the Xpress team will provide training on the HYPE Tool to a Croydon Neighbourhood Team Wardens.

Why is the Safer Croydon Partnership Important?

It is not a decision-making body but will recommend for approval to statutory authorities any jointly agreed plans or strategies relating to community safety; taking into account national policies, existing local service provision and likely available resources.

An executive group will oversee the business, nominated by the joint chairs, agreed by the board members and monitored by the Council Cabinet.

 Membership

Members of the Partnership will include nominated senior representatives of partner organisations and elected representatives from the voluntary sector and local communities. The Cabinet Member for Community Safety will chair.
If you want to start a discussion forum, let us know below. We will have a generic membership forum for all networks, watch this space.
