A Brighter Future (ABF) is a Youth Design and Manufacturing Enterprise that provides training to equip young people aged 14-25 (especially those at risk of exclusion) with the skills they need, so they can take control of their own lives and create their own money making options.
We work with youth in schools, pupil referral units (PRUs) and youth organisations. ABF delivers opportunities for young people to develop their creative and enterprise skills, confidence and professional experience, through establishing and running supported micro enterprises. We offer: Training in fashion jewellery and enterprise; Advice, support and coaching/mentoring in design and production skills; Accredited learning programmes (up to level 2), Training in design and production of fashion clothing and accessories; Business Start Up advice; and Mentoring and support to youth.

AIHMS was set up in January 2002 in association with Hear Us and the Mental Health Service User Council. The group’s aims are to combat the stigma and misunderstanding around mental illness through education and training. Since that date AIMHS have provided: -
Mental health training for Croydon Social Services, Greenwich University, Croydon Health, Integrated Adult Mental Health Services, SLAM, and Hear Us. Training areas have been awareness raising, combating the stigma of mental illness and strengthening service user involvement in the community programme approach.
We support training placements for social care and health students in collaboration with Universities. Training has been around anti discriminatory practice, mental health group work and mental health policy.
Independent mental health assessments have also been provided for mental health tribunals.
The Advisors are all former or current Mental Health Service Users specifically from the Croydon area coordinated by a Professional Trainer. The group will continue to work closely with Hear Us, the service user council and other agencies, by providing high quality training. In doing so AIMHS contributes towards improving Mental Health services in Croydon and, opening up opportunities in the workplace

AYDA is a support group for Black Minority Ethnic (BME) children and young people with learning difficulties and their families. We provide information about learning difficulties and work closely with professionals to assist children and young people with learning difficulties to reach their full potential. The Peepul Family Resource Centre is a Barnardo’s Family Centre offering a range of services to families in times of difficulty and change. We work in partnership with the London Borough of Croydon. The club provides social, leisure and welfare activities for adults with learning disabilities aged 16+. No upper age limit. Weekly club evenings are held and regular activities include darts, snooker, music, arts and crafts, table tennis and short mat bowls. Additional activities are also organised including barbecues, sports, country dancing, musical entertainment and quizzes. Club evenings also offer people the opportunity to socialise with their friends. In addition to the weekly meetings, an extensive range of external activities are organised, including trips to the theatre and outings to places of interest. Camping and youth hostelling weekends are also arranged and an annual holiday, which is often taken abroad. The club is run on an entirely voluntary basis and is a registered charity. It is affiliated to Mencap.

We are a group for over 60s living in a high rise block of 44 flats. We hold 4 committee meetings, 3 general meetings per year. One of our main aims is to be good neighbours and to watch out for each other. Each month residents go to the cinema with help from the Grant we have from Croydon Council. Some residents are wheelchair bound and all make the choice of films to view. About once a year residents have a coach visit to the coast after having a collective meeting as to where and when. Croydon Sea Cadets is a youth organisation for both boys and girls from the ages of 10-18. The staff are all volunteers, some stay as unit helpers and others go further and do courses to become uniformed staff. We have a junior section for 10-12 year olds. They attend on a Tuesday night and the staff teach them all sorts of activities with a naval background. They are taught how to sail, do first aid, work as a team, drill and discipline. They learn how to pipe the boswains call. We take them swimming and rowing at the docks. They also learn basic expedition training, camp cooking, putting up tents, general knots and do lots of team building exercises. They can also go on an annual camp which includes a mini assault course, abseiling and air rifle shooting.
The senior section from 12-18 can do more things inside and out the Unit. They come on both Tuesdays and Thursdays. They are able to get badges for a wide range of activities such as sailing, canoeing, offshore sailing, rowing, windsurfing, seamanship, cooking, first aid, communications, fore bore and air rifle shooting, expedition training, Duke of Edinburgh awards, marine engineering and stores. They are able to learn the basics through to more advanced qualifications. They can also progress through the ranks from cadet to petty officer cadet, similar to the actual navy. This depends on skills learnt and their age.

The Writers Circle gives help (not financially) and advice to members regarding the aspect of writing to which they are drawn. We also have speakers at our Clocktower meetings. An energetic youth group with a difference! Pandava Sena is the youth wing of Shrila Prabhupada’s world famous ISKCON (Hare Krishna society). Established in 1994 with youth groups now all over London, the UK and the world. PSena run a mentors programme, university programme, organise music gigs, spiritual retreats around the world, record music, make films and have a lot of FUN. PSena young people do also go into schools and youth clubs and run highly interactive and imaginative workshops on issues of the day (e.g. global warming, substance misuse) as well as on the Vedic teachings.

The Purley Cross Centre is a self-financing project (supported by Croydon Council) run by members of Purley Baptist Church. We are available 24hrs a day for the people living in Riddlesdown. We will help and give some advice to any aged person if it meets our criteria. Most of the help we give is transport to medical appointments, taking people shopping or doing the shopping for them. We will befriend people and sit and visit, perhaps giving respite to carers. We will take people to lunch clubs, some volunteers will do DIY and sometimes we do small household jobs for a while if needed but not on a permanent basis. We have an annual outing. Last year to Kew for a picnic lunch and cream tea on the way home. We also went to Biggin Hill Air Show. Outings are arranged if we feel our clients would enjoy something. Our volunteers meet together twice a year. Sometimes with a relevant speaker and sometimes with a meal or social.

The club currently has two teams, playing in both the Super League and the National 1st Division South. We also take part in tournaments and competitions throughout the United Kingdom and abroad. Wheelchair basketball is a mixed sport, with men and women, juniors and seniors, participating in the game. To ensure fair competition players are classified according to the level of physical disability on an individual points scale of 1 to 5 with 5 points representing an able bodied player. Most of our players live in Croydon, Bromley and South London although anyone from any area can join our club. We are always looking for new members, irrespective of playing experience.
