There’s still time to take part in the consultation on shaping the Big Society in Croydon. The easiest way for people who live and work in Croydon to get involved and share their thoughts is to participate in a secure, online survey using this link: www.croydon.gov.uk/democracy/consultations/bigsociety.
You can also get paper copies from Access Croydon at Taberner House as well as local libraries or by ringing 020 8726 6000 ext: 62530.
This consultation comes from Croydon Council’s Discussion Paper ‘Growing a Bigger Stronger Society', read the full cabinet paper using the web link above, to offer the borough’s residents and groups an initial / first opportunity to express thoughts and ideas on the way forward for Croydon.
Sent to CVA by Councillor Vidhi Mohan, Cabinet Member for Communities.
A note on CVA’s Big Society activity
One of the things Croydon Voluntary Action has been working over 2010-11 with three other South London agencies is: how groups and individuals respond to reductions in state funding whilst they handle potential greater demands on services and how this affects their community development and civic action. At the same time, redundancy and social change may present opportunities for individuals to get more involved locally as powers are devolved down under the ‘localism’ agenda.
We need to ensure that people in poorer neighbourhoods or with greater needs do not miss the Big Society bus. The Community Leadership Legacy Project is hosted by CVA but is working equally across Bromley, Croydon, Richmond on Thames and Sutton; funded by the Department for Civil Society in partnership with the London Civic Forum and London Voluntary Services Council.
