Adam Yasir is a finalist in the vInspired Volunteering Awards.  Adam says "The international volunteers who helped in the refugee camp in Darfur stuck in my mind when I arrived in England in 2007.  I wondered why they really cared about us when the Sudanese government did not."   Volunteering himself seemed a good way both to find out and to help him settle into his new home country.  So Adam, now 21, beat a path to the door of Croydon Voluntary Action, where he was sent on his first volunteer project, visiting elderly people in the borough.  Read more

'Martin' (not his real name) is a Mental Health service user who was referred to the Volunteer Centre Croydon by Croydon Community Opportunities Service team of SLaM. Martin was suffering from depression and had been a service user of the CCOS for some time.  Read more

Alice is one of the Managers of the Mind in Croydon Enterprise shop. The shop volunteering opportunities had historically been promoted via Do-it but the first personal contact Alice has with the VCC was attending a Volunteer Management one day training session.  Read more
