Advocacy Training on School Exclusions

Saturday 13 February 2016
09:30 to 16:30

Since 1999, Communities Empowerment Network (CEN) has worked and campaigned for Equality and Justice in Education.

CEN are the only organisation in London that are specifically funded to provide Free Independent Expert Advice, Support, and Representation to parents and carers of children who are at risk of exclusion or have been excluded.

Saturday 13th February 2016 is the latest of Free Introductory Education Advocacy Training Sessions CEN has delivered this year. Please do not book on if you have attended before unless you need to review.

IMPORTANT: For past attendees, the afternoon content is the same as the previous Advocacy Training days CEN have held over the past year or so. However we have added a Morning Section that specifically focuses on prevention and early intervention

Who should attend?

Parents who want to gain the essential skills and knowledge to empower themselves and other parents that have children at risk of school exclusion or who have been excluded.
Community members and practitioners who would like to develop their understanding of Advocacy and School Exclusions.
And for anyone who would be interested in becoming a CEN VOLUNTEER ADVOCATE for Communities Empowerment Network and helping us meet the huge demand for our services

What will I get out of the workshop?

  • Understand the parent’s and child’s perspective
  • Understand the school environment and types of exclusion that schools enforce
  • Identify when children are more likely to be at risk at of exclusion and the strategies to put in place to avoid Exclusion
  • Increase your knowledge about the legal aspects of exclusion.
  • Understand the importance of recording information and how to ask critical questions to prepare an effective case.
  • Opportunity to become a CEN Volunteer Advocate or Empowerment Volunteer.

We have a huge demand for our training and due to limited funding we are only able to hold a few of these workshops each year.

The training will take place from 9:30am to 4:30pm at our Training room in Brixton (please see link for further details)
