Andre, is a local dad and passionate about football; with last year's sucess Andre was inspired to run another football community event this year.

A sucessful local council application enabled Andre to organise a football competition family day in Wilford Road park called 'World Cup, world food!' The day included Ethiopian food, prepared and served by local mum, Senite, who has a passion for cooking, 60 children played football, there were also stalls, music and a bouncy castle

Andre would like to see the competition become annual event.

It started with a small group of parents who were interested in improving Trumble Gardens (a small play park, which was very much in need of repair, tucked away and unused).

Trumble Gardens

From the initial conversations last year, this project has developed to having had a clean up day, a safe play and planting day, and a gardening afternoon-planting sunflowers, with more days planned. .

The group's enthusiasm has inspired other organisations to come on board and support the project

  • Conversations with the Council's Parks department has provided very practical advice regarding what and when to plant, to starting a Friends of group.
  • The local councillors have donated some of their ward budget towards repairing some of the play equipment
  • The Pay Back Team, have also been at the park litter picking.

A 'Friends of Tumble Gardens' group has been established and they now intend to start an under 5’s gardening group (using the lock up).
