Carly, Hazel and other 3 mums want to improve the local playpark by getting the playground equipment repaired. They'd also like to see wooden structures in the woodland for the children to climb on. Our Best Start ABCD community builder supported them by organising Community of Practice meetings and inviting local councillors, artists & businesses as well as residents who could offer gifts such as sources of wood. The area has an amazing history as it was Beulah Spa; "the Versailles of London"; there used to be amazing gardens there and events. The mums have spoken about contacting the Council to get a community notice board installed as the first step in 'rehabilitating' Peggy's Playground.

St Johns' will offer seedcorn to enable a community consultation at top and bottom of hill and parents have been introduced to Friends of Spa Woods! Get involved! JennyJ@acorns2oaks.net

Sarah, who has an MA in Play and experience in setting up Junk play sessions, wants to have two containers in South Norwood Park hosting a range of toys for some Junk play sessions at the park for the local community. She has been linked up with the Woodcraft group, Real nappies network and other local residents such as Iva, the edible gardening childminder. She has set up a Facebook page for the group.

Sarah attended the Community Health Champions course at CVA and is planning to use the small bursary to pay for a storage unit in the park. COP meeting was done with councillor, TCV, Play Streets at council, Emma Hope from Love Lane Garden. Pop up event planned for 26th May in South Norwood Country Park! Linked her to Peggys park & Manor Farm Nature reserve.

Our ABCD Best Start community builders has been supporting very closely the setting up of Chevening Hub (Chevening Road, Upper Norwood) by enthusiastic local resident and police officer Ben. A range of workshops and activities are taking place or being planned at the Hub for the benefit of families: Sand Art session by a mum of two, Sasha; a summer youth club by a Health champion, Leeman; Tai Chi lessons for adults; a community cafe' and a planned photography exhibition.

Jenny supported Ben in reaching out to community groups and projects. Linked him with orgs and funding advice and other connector. A café is now running at the centre and a Easter camp has been organised and publicised during Easter. For more information contact
