In collaboration with New Addington Pathfinders, our Hate Crime ABCD Community Builder, Priya Loomba is engaging with young people in the area.

At their initial meeting, all expressed a feeling of fear and vulnerability to hate crime, this was in many cases due to disabilities, learning difficulties and gender.

Young people identified a priority for the local shopping parade to be a safe space from hate crime.  They have gathered experiences from peers and other community members to identify ways in which safety can be increased.

They have invited local Business Improvement District (BID) to the participate in their efforts, presenting ways in which local adults and businesses can help create resilience to hate crime. Various participants are looking at a 'safe shops initiative' where young people can feel confident to enter, and report in the event of feeling unsafe, or having witnessed a hate crime.

The young people plan to develop their own training presentation to take to schools and businesses, highlighting the 'safe shops scheme' but also sharing what hate crime is.

This ABCD project is funded by MOPAC, for more information contact our Hate Crime ABCD Community Builder, Priya Loomba, priya.loomba@cvalive.org.uk, or telephone 07943364310
